This
contract involved the removal of one hundred and sixty eight flats built
in 1960. They were situated in a twenty two-storey block, 63 metres
high, at Upper Parliament Street, Liverpool. The construction was in-situ
reinforced concrete, all of which had to be reduced to the ground and
the site graded and levelled. Throughout the demolition work there were
occupied dwellings close to the building, on one side they were three
metres away, on the other side they were ten metres away. To avoid damage
to the dwellings the sidewalls of the building were sheeted from top
to bottom before work began. The whole of the structure was covered
by scaffolding and as each storey was taken down the work platforms
at that level were enclosed by fragmentation sheeting to contain loose
rubble as the area was dismantled. From the erection of hoarding around
the site to the final clearance of the ground the contract was finished
within the specified period, with no disturbance to the tenants, in
the houses on either side of the block. |
